The College of Engineering and Polymer Science (CEPS) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 CEPS Achievement Awards. These annual awards recognize the outstanding contributions of faculty and staff in the areas of teaching, research and service. Honorees were celebrated at a ceremony in the Auburn Science and Engineering Center where each received a commemorative plaque and a monetary award.
“This year’s award recipients exemplify the dedication, passion and innovation that define our College,” said Dr. Craig Menzemer, dean of CEPS. “From guiding first-year students to advancing impactful research, our faculty and staff continue to elevate the student experience and enrich our academic community.”
Congratulations to the following awardees:
Louis A. Hill Award
Dr. Ge (Christie) Zhang
Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Zhang is recognized for her outstanding contributions across teaching, research and service. A driving force behind the development of the Biomedical Engineering curriculum, she is also a dedicated mentor to both undergraduate and graduate students. Student feedback reflects exceptional teaching performance, with evaluation scores routinely in the top tier. Zhang’s impactful research addresses critical healthcare challenges including cardiac cell therapy, 3D cardiac tissue models for drug screening and microfluidic device design. She has secured $3.6 million in competitive research funding from leading agencies such as the NIH, NSF and American Heart Association, and continues to advance the field through both scholarship and service to the broader technical community.
Chemstress Teaching Award
Dr. Kwek Tze (KT) Tan
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. KT Tan is more than an educator — he is a mentor, motivator and advocate for his students. Known for making students feel supported and seen, especially during their crucial first year, Tan co-founded the Zips: Engineered for Success (ZEFS) Program to help first-year engineering students develop essential real-world skills. His mentorship extends to upperclassmen and graduate students alike. As director of the Center for Advanced Materials Performance, Tan has secured over $500,000 in funding and built partnerships with nearly 20 industry leaders, creating meaningful research and development opportunities for students at all levels. His passion for teaching and student success makes him a deserving recipient of the Chemstress Teaching Award.
Outstanding Staff Award
Ellen Wise
Administrative and Student Support Specialist, Mechanical Engineering
Ellen Wise is celebrated for her exceptional service and her warm, welcoming presence in the College. Known for her “how can I help?” attitude, she creates an inclusive and inviting environment for students and faculty alike. She has transformed the Mechanical Engineering Office and ASEC lobby into student-friendly spaces through thoughtful decorations, treats and interactive displays. Wise also streamlines operations by developing handbooks and training resources, enhancing clarity and efficiency. Always ready to support others, she frequently volunteers to train new staff or assist across departments — making her an invaluable part of the CEPS team.

In addition to her administrative excellence, Wise is honored for her steadfast commitment to student success. Her development of a detailed graduate manual has become an essential guide for students navigating their academic journey. She regularly goes beyond her role to take on extra responsibilities, contribute to the Student Center’s welcoming displays and assist with student-facing activities. Her dedication, initiative and thoughtful contributions leave a lasting impact on both students and colleagues throughout the College.
